Naughtone is an exciting designer, manufacturer and supplier of furniture based in the North and, having experienced significant growth over recent years, the company acquired premises at Knaresborough Technology Park to establish its new UK headquarters.
Instructed to design the office element of the project, SpaceInvader was briefed to create a working environment for around 30 employees that embodied Naughtone’s passion for good, honest, British design. A place for staff to work, meet and relax in a welcoming, homely space that would be functional and capable of showcasing Naughtone’s latest products.
Spread over 3,400 sq ft, the office needed to include areas for the directors to base themselves and provide a certain level of privacy, while still maintaining an open door policy as well as an open-plan kitchen, meetings rooms and entrance space.
The concept was developed using four cornerstones – Observation, Attention to Detail, Honest Materials and Instantly Understood and Loved. Naughtone prides itself on using observations of how people intuitively use furniture to influence product design and place great importance on the small details that offer a really high quality finish to each piece.
With this in mind, the office space was designed to create lots of opportunities to glimpse the Naughtone range through transparent sections of bespoke joinery and apertures, and every aspect of the floorplate was carefully considered to illustrate their ‘attention to detail’ philosophy. ‘Honest’ materials such as exposed wood and steel frames were incorporated into the office to provide an industrial palette that hides nothing, but still feels welcoming and familiar.
The new HQ has given us a fantastic space to call home, but the real win has been the sense of community.”

The new HQ has given us a fantastic space to call home, but the real win has been the sense of community and increased collaboration which we have seen vastly improve since we moved in. The kitchen area is in use every hour of the day by staff and visitors alike, and we have an office that the whole business is really proud of.”
This project was completed in just 12 weeks from concept to handover.
Our re-design at 55 Spring Gardens won the 'Commercial Fit Out Project of the Year' at the North West Business Insider Property Awards 2016.
