Regatta Group HQ

the great outdoors, indoors

The Regatta Group appointed SpaceInvader to create a state-of-the-art HQ in Trafford Park, Manchester following a design competition in 2013.

The £10m project saw the conversion of the company's existing warehouse, originally a WW1 arms factory, into a striking Grade A office environment.

SpaceInvader immediately rose to the challenge combining sensitivity, flair and great technical know-how to a complex project.

SpaceInvader immediately rose to the challenge combining sensitivity, flair and great technical know-how to a complex project. Their designs are brilliant, highly intelligent and thoughtful and have absolutely delivered on our brief.

SpaceInvader immediately rose to the challenge combining sensitivity, flair and great technical know-how to a complex project. It was a real pleasure to work with them and I am full of admiration for their ability and style of work. A real class act.

— John Mulvihill, Regatta Group

The aim was to bring together the Group’s three international outdoor brands – Regatta, Craghoppers and Dare2b – alongside the Hawkshead retail business on a single floorplate in a modern HQ that retains brand definition by embracing their distinct culture and values. For the first time in the company’s history, all of its 350 HQ employees are under one roof.

The solution was achieved through strategic space planning and working with the brands to construct a workspace that incorporates four distinct neighbourhoods. The Regatta, Dare2b, Craghoppers and Hawkshead areas each have their own look and feel created to break up the space, provide clarity on location and still be harmonious to the macro scale of the floor plate. Flooring, fabrics, timbers and walls were individually designed to reflect the core DNA of each brand. Slatted structures and vegetation were added along the main circulation routes to provide distinction as well as some much needed vertical interruption to long range views.

We have a state-of-the-art office environment specifically designed to better support us.

The Regatta Group is a European leader in the outdoor clothing industry and now we have a state-of-the-art office environment specifically designed to better support us.

You can feel the energy pumping through the building, it’s very exciting. The Regatta Group is a European leader in the outdoor clothing industry and now we have a state-of-the-art office environment specifically designed to better support us.

— Keith Black, Chairman, Regatta Group

The concept has delivered a unique working landscape complete with trees, plants, boardwalks, a wooden pavilion and a central ‘Campsite’ where employees can eat, meet, interact and collaborate. The design team took inspiration from Regatta’s ‘great outdoors’ brand and created the great indoors – a place where each brand is brought to life.
