Case study:

Shop Direct, Liverpool

Shop Direct is the UK’s second largest online pureplay retailer, and home to well-known brands such as Very, Littlewoods and Ladybird. Early in 2015 SpaceInvader was approached by the company to design a 12,217 sq ft function space within its Speke HQ, however, the brief rapidly evolved and the final scheme delivered a unique multi-level training, conference and wellbeing centre for the 2,500 head office staff.

Working in close partnership with Shop Direct’s facilities management team, SpaceInvader helped define the functionality of the space as well as develop a strong aesthetic befitting the leading digital retailer. Officially launched in July 2016, the new facility features a two-tiered mezzanine designed to resemble shipping containers within a soft, homely, Scandinavian inspired space that aims to transport users away from their day-to-day office environment and help to encourage ideas, collaboration and free thinking.

On the ground floor, the ‘Juicy Cube’ provides healthy drinks and snacks alongside a wellbeing and fitness suite complete with fully functional gym and personal training space, and a state-of-the-art conference centre to accommodate 250 delegates.

SpaceInvader helped us create a conference and wellbeing facility full of purpose and passion! With their creative approach, we were challenged to think differently about what could be achieved, creating an exciting new facility for our colleagues. The Cube has had huge impact on our Health and Wellbeing Agenda for the business as well as providing a space to be proud of. Throughout the process the design was communicated brilliantly and engaged us and our stakeholders on all levels

Staff training and meeting zones are located on the first floor of the Cube as well as product showcase lounges where teams from across the business can collaborate and discuss future product trends, while on the second floor a lodge-style quiet working area has been created to provide employees with a space to reflect, relax or concentrate.
