BOND by SpaceInvader at Sleep&Eat

Europe’s leading design and innovation event for the hospitality sector, Sleep&Eat returned on the 19th-20th November at Olympia London. This year's theme is “Social FlexAbility” and we showcased the notion of flexible sociable space through BOND, our concept bar set, designed by the hospitality team at SpaceInvader.

Bar Concept

In order to develop the traditional bar as it stands today we tried to establish what needs changing. With the rise in traction of social media, face to face interaction has become rare.

Conversations are being left to the keypad, with the notion of meeting people in a bar being relevant to only previous generations. But what if a bar’s design could enhance these conversations and bring them to the future, not leaving them in the past? What if the biggest barrier is the bar itself?

Be it a lone guest, small or large group, the space lends itself to its user through layout and design to achieve the end goal of being a space for the development of conversations.

Project owner, Izzy Eling commented:

“We asked ourselves: what’s the biggest barrier to “Social FlexAbility” in a bar? Our answer was the bar itself! So, we are creating BOND. A bar without a bar which, through layout and design, becomes a space where conversations are developed. Adaptability leading to interaction with the environment, flexibility empowering the individual to use the space as suits them, design enhancing service and promoting human interaction.”

Partners

BOND is a collaboration with build Partner J Carey Design and project suppliers include lighting from Enigma, laminate from Egger upholstery from Vescom, curtains from Kvadrat, feature chain ceiling from Kriskadecor and flooring from Modulyss and Havwoods.

Conference

As part of the 2019 conference programme, our Senior Interior Designer, Izzy Eling and Director John Williams also joined the other 5 design studios creating Sleep and Eat Sets hosted by Heleri Rande for 'Sleep & Eat Set Vignettes':

“Social FlexAbility in action. Our Sleep&Eat Sets are an amazing showcase of design and a cult favourite of the show. Created for you and each available as an immersive experience, six different designers have been tasked with exploring how to make a guest room, restaurant or bar agile enough to enable users to enjoy the social experience of their choice.”
