SpaceInvader Design (d)arc sessions Croatia Roundup Exterior

After attending the recent (d)arc sessions in Croatia, here are some of our key findings and highlights from the trip.

The panel discussions covered "The Future of Design," where AI's impact on our roles as designers was debated. While AI has its strengths, the human connection and creativity in design are irreplaceable. In "The Challenges of Design," we discussed common project hurdles and solutions like fee proposals, management processes, and AI assistance. "The Future of Events" highlighted the need for sustainability and the value of events like Light + Build and Light23 for learning and networking.

As well as many lighting manufacturers using sustainable packaging solutions and subscribing to programs to recycle or reuse content after its life, there is some great innovation in this space happening including eldoLED who have developed a driver made from recycled paper rather than plastic or metal.

We were introduced to quite a few lighting suppliers during the trip. Three of these in particular piqued our interest, who were:

The Light Lab – a creative company with a diverse portfolio of projects, offering bespoke lighting solutions to meet each project’s requirement. We love their installation in Penn Station, New York – this space has a low ceiling, and their introduction of the skyscape feature creates the illusion it is a lot higher, making it a much nicer space. Their bespoke development allowed them to ensure this product was shatter proof to protect the product and the public.

Linea Light – a beautiful decorative lighting catalogue suitable for a range of projects. We particularly liked Quara, Duck and Yo-yo.

LODES – an Italian lighting studio with some beautiful, high-quality collections. Their configurator was of particular interest, helping designers with dimensions and creating accurate designs. It also allows you to easily move the fixtures into 3D models. Our favourite pieces were Jefferson, Easy Peasy and Nautilus.

Thank you again to darc for inviting us on the trip, and we look forward to implementing these learnings in our future projects!
