We were appointed by The Oddfellows Group to design their new hotel at Bruntwood Park in Cheadle, Stockport. Working in partnership with the project architect, our team was tasked to restore the building’s original features sympathetically , keeping a true sense of history and incorporating the signature touch of playful design that characterises an Oddfellows hotel.

The 19th century mansion, which is surrounded by 100 acres of leafy parkland, had never been used as a hotel before but has been transformed into a 22-bedroom boutique hotel complete with six suites, a destination restaurant, cocktail bar, event space and spa.

Our colour palette was informed by the Victorian Gothic history of the building. Muted shades of greens, blues, purples and blacks were considered room by room, providing a backdrop to quirky conversational artwork and decorative lighting. During the building’s restoration, stunning original encaustic floor tiles were uncovered in the reception area and revived to their former glory.

The interior palette was developed to work alongside the original features with the same attention to detail applied to fittings such as a chandelier manufactured from bike chains - a nod to the Bruntwood Park BMX track.

The approach focused on respecting the character and beautiful features of Bruntwood Hall – to be inspired by them, enhance them and to design a romantic scheme that celebrates the history of the building and its unique position. The aim was to create a space that allows guests to lose themselves in their surroundings and feel that the Hall is theirs for the weekend.

Every aspect of the design is an important element of the journey through the hotel, from the original reception floor to the artwork. No space is left unconsidered whether you’re checking in or enjoying a cocktail and dinner, via the marrying of the odd with the original, using heritage aspects of the building to bring about a unique guest experience.
