Associate Director Sarah Dabbs Joins Material Source Round Table on Technology and Sustainability in Design
At SpaceInvader, we’re committed to exploring new ways to blend cutting-edge technology with sustainable design practices. Our Associate Director, Sarah Dabbs, recently took part in a stimulating round table discussion hosted by Material Source, focusing on the role of technology in driving sustainability within the design industry.
Titled Is Technology Aiding Sustainability in Design?, the round table brought together experts to discuss how tools like AI, Revit, and 3D printing are revolutionising the design process and helping the industry meet the goals set by the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard.
Key insights from the discussion included:
Leveraging Technology for Sustainable Design: AI, Revit, and 3D printing were highlighted as essential tools for improving efficiency, reducing waste, and enhancing energy performance in commercial interior design. These technologies are transforming the way commercial interior designers approach sustainability.
Achieving UK Net Zero Carbon Targets: The conversation explored how these innovations are key to achieving the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard and meeting the sustainability targets of today’s built environment.
Tackling Challenges for Widespread Adoption: While the opportunities are immense, participants also acknowledged the challenges around cost, planning, and insurance that need to be overcome for these technologies to be adopted at scale across the commercial design sector.
During the round table, Sarah Dabbs shared SpaceInvader’s approach to integrating innovative technologies into our commercial interior design projects. She discussed how we’re using AI and Revit to optimise designs for greater sustainability, as well as the need to address challenges that impact the wider industry.
The conversation sparked an ongoing dialogue about how commercial interior designers can harness technology to create more sustainable, energy-efficient spaces. We look forward to continuing this important discussion at upcoming seminars and are excited to see how the industry will evolve to meet future sustainability challenges.
