Spindles Town Centre: A Landmark in Regeneration & Design

Oldham Council’s new workplace located within Spindles Town Square

SpaceInvader is proud to unveil the transformation of Spindles Town Centre, a former 1990s shopping mall in Oldham, Greater Manchester, now reimagined as a modern civic and cultural hub. This bold redevelopment, part of Oldham Council’s ambitious regeneration plans, has earned a place on the BCO Awards shortlist, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of mixed-use spaces.

This project represents a shift in how commercial spaces serve both workplaces and the wider community. By repurposing the existing structure, the design delivers a seamless, multi-functional environment that fosters collaboration, accessibility, and adaptability, while maintaining a strong civic identity.

The carefully curated interiors provide a fluid transition between teamwork spaces, focused work zones, and areas for public engagement. Every material choice was intentional, drawing inspiration from Oldham’s industrial heritage, while sustainability is embedded throughout, integrating energy-efficient strategies and biophilic design elements to enhance the user experience.

This transformation was made possible through collaborative expertise, working alongside Oldham Council, AEW Architects, and a highly skilled team of engineers, sustainability consultants, and suppliers. The result is a human-centric, high-performing workspace that redefines the way we think about regeneration.

More updates as we unveil additional BCO Awards-shortlisted projects in the coming weeks.
